Trip to Morongo
Well last night, fellow poker player Jeff Torres and I headed out to Morongo Casino and Resort which is about 45 minutes east of LA. It is a nice casino but not really the first choice for poker, It has a 22 table poker room which is kinda small. Anyways we started off towards the blackjack tables in an effort to juice our stacks before we go to the poker room. I turned a 50% profit at the blackjack tables and gave myself a bit more of an M at the poker room. Jeff turns a whopping 325% profit at the blackjack tables, giving him enough money to cashout some and be in the profit and have a max buy in at the poker tables. So that was exciting. We continue to the poker room and sit down to $1/$3 blinds no limit. My first hand (which I usually refrain from playing) comes AhAd, and im thinking very deeply because i havent seen one hand of how any of these guys play.
I raise 3 times the blind in the under the gun position and get one caller. so far so good. Flop comes
5 8 5 with a 8 and 5 being clubs. so i bet the pot ( mistake, i should have shoved but i think this guy would of called me anyways because he was outstacking me about 3:1, and here you have to expect fish donks to draw for anything...but if anything there is more of a chance of him not having the flush draw than having it. So he calls, and the turn comes a 10 of clubs making the flush, we both check. River comes another ten making this as bad of a board as possible, but i couldn't put him on anything. So he bets about half the pot and i shove which isn't too much more anyways. He had a flush and i lost. First hand, pocket aces, lost everything lol. It is very hard to guess what amount of money will get your opponent off of his draw. A logical player, would call if the odds are right, and i did give him odds ( i didnt have enough money to really give him that bad of odds anyways). Ultimately, I have discovered that it is a bad idea to sit down with anything less than the max buy in, you will get called / bullied and drawn-out-on unless you have the money to push people around a little bit.
Additionally, Morongo is known to have pretty terrible hold em players, and their tournament structure is probably the worst for any casino around. All together i am done with their poker, i have been drawn on to much and the last tourny i went to i got knocked out by some idiot with pkt tens while a king was on the board, I have two pair kings and eights he has his 10's and calls my shove only to hit a ten on the river...Getting kind of sick of the donkeys.
Jeff did alright only playing about three hands out of 30 or so and making another 12 percent in the poker room.
Naturally after losing to a draw with pkt aces i was depressed lol and thought the hand out in my head over and over again. I should of shoved on the flop , and had more money in the first place. What I thought were fairly large bets he considered mini bets. Live an Learn.

Over 18, but under 21...Online only? I think not..
A project of mine which i would really enjoy making happen is a tournament large enough to attract the talent, and also allow the entrance of players not yet 21 but at least 18. A way to scout the talent if you will, and see the next generation of Vegas sharks in action. Tell me what you think, tell me if you, or someone you know, would like this idea and participate. With the youngest WSOP champion ever crowned just weeks ago, now is the time to see what the youngsters can really do!! Please give me your feedback as a player, and if your in a executive position with the ability to help make this happen, please contact me so we can discuss the many possibilities.

Favorite Poker Shows and Tournys
My favorite cash game show would have to be High Stakes Poker. I love the way those guys duke it out for huge pots. Another show that is really funny but isn't quite as focused on poker is I Bet You. It stars Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari and consists of them making bets on just about anything and everything. They have pretty down to earth personalities, and are outgoing when they try to beat each other. I usually will go to www.pokertube.com because they have a great collection of videos including a huge collection of wsop's. A lot of videos of course can be found on youtube as well. OmNi :)
Online Poker vs. Live Games
Well lately I have been interested in the difference between live play and online gaming (referring to Texas Hold 'em). As we all know it is a limited information game, and when playing online you are limiting the information to your brain even more. No more nervous ticks, smiles at the corner of the mouth, or watching someones eyes light up before they realize to keep it cool. Its just cold hard math, and the only reads from your opponent are the time it takes to act, the action itself, and the amount bet. This may be fine for some, but I think a lot of people playing online would benefit from just going to a live game.
In a live game, your mind is taking in more information than you are aware of. Sub-consciously monitoring the muscles in the faces of your opponents. Heart beats, breathing patterns, you can even verbally address the opponent and see how they react. This is how poker has been played since the beginning, and just recently we see the online explosion.
Online poker is very convenient for many reasons. It brings the casino to your house, which in turn saves on gas. It usually has many deposit options that are easy to work with. And a major plus is the ability to play more than one table at once. With that being said, we have to examine the con's of the online gaming as well. It can sometimes be very difficult to withdraw your money from the online gaming company. Like I said earlier, the lack of information to your brain would have to go in the negative category in my opinion. Finally, we've reached the darkest side of online gaming... Collusion, Bots, Cracks, Hacks, Client Cracks with screenshots, and more. The online gaming boom attracts just as much attention from people looking to defraud it. It is a industry extremely susceptable to fraud due to how unregulated it still is, and of course the fact that it is program based and programs can be manipulated.
There are situations where when you sit at a 9 person sit and go, you are facing 1 person playing as the other 8 opponents. Ultimately he is seeing 16 hole cards for every 2 you see. Colluding alone, or self-collusion. Then there are times when you are against a team of people who have a shared database so they can see each others hole cards and decide who should play the hand against you. That would be collusion. Then there are bots that just make the best decisions they can make at all times. They will usually remember everything you do in a database in an effort to get a percentage of how often you might raise pre-flop amongst other stats. These stats help decpiher how good of a hand you have. These make it extremely hard to win and of course are giving an unfair advantage to the people using them.
Cracks and hacks, I have seen people advertising their method of cracking a users client, and basically taking a picture of what is on their screen and sending it to their own computer. This would result in a picture of the other player's hole cards. Do you want someone to know what your hole cards are? Of course not, and now seems like a good time to point out that the only way someone will know your hole cards in a live game is if they figure it out, or if you flip 'em over.
Your not always going to be in an unfair game, but if you play a lot online I'm willing to bet you've been up against bots at the least, and most likely collusion too. Try more live games if you are able too, it might just pay off.
